HomeWe Learn

Fly fishing is a life long learning adventure and
TTFF promotes learning by our members in several ways.
Our beginning level fly fishers are encouraged to attend classes at our sponsors, including Orvis, Cabela's, Scheels, Fly Fishing Specialties and the Reno Fly Shop.  These classes are great introductions to the basic skills needed to advance your journey.
Our members are encouraged to fish with others that are at their level of experience as fly fishing is a journey of discovery requiring time on the water.  By meeting other fly fishers at your level or more advanced, you can shorten the overall learning curve while making new friends.

All levels of skills are encouraged attend our GroupFish events where we explore waters both local and on short trips.  On the unguided events, more advanced members assist others on what equipment will be needed, what flies to use, how to rig rods for the situation, etc.  These are opportunities to experience a venue with members that are willing to share their many years of experience.  We typically schedule eight or more of these GroupFish events per year.
Other GroupFish events are guided trips, such as floating the Lower Sacramento River.  While a member can always book their own trip, going with the club ensures you will have a boat partner and expands the learning opportunities.

We also sponsor workshops with local guides on a variety of venues from moving water to Pyramid Lake.  These range in size from 2 to 15 members.  Once again, members could attend clinics open to the public, but by attending with other TTFF members, you will learn more and develop relationships with potential fishing partners.
We hold general meetings in the months of January through May and October where we have noted guides and speakers help us better understand local and near by fisheries and techniques.
For those looking to learn to tie flies, we hold a tying class each winter.
So consider membership in TTFF to advance your fly fishing skills, share your knowledge and build relationships with other fly fishers.
