About this event
This is a RESCHEDULE of the cancelled February 21-22 Outing.
If you need to cancel, note the March 14 deadline.
Tahoe Truckee Fly Fishers is returning to the UC Field Station on the Lower Yuba River!
This is an opportunity to fish the best water below the Englebright Dam.
We have Saturday March 28 and Sunday March 29, 2026 reserved for up to 20 people.
The UC Davis property is located about 1-1/2 hours from Truckee via I-80 and Highway 20 .
We will be provided with the combination to the gate lock so can accommodate staggered
arrivals/departures. The gate may be “Dummy Locked” during the day. There is a pavilion with picnic tables and a charcoal grill available. You'll need to bring your own lunch and water.
Porta Potty’s are on site
If the river is running 1,800 CFS or less, wading is very possible and there are over 3 miles of
river to access. There will be indicator and tight line nymphing as well as likely Skwala
stonefly dry fly action. PMD's are another major hatch in Winter. For those who want to swing with a trout spey, it's worth a try as well.
You will need a 3 to 6 weight rod with a floating line for indicator, tight line, or dry fly fishing. A sink tip
line could also be used to swing streamers/soft hackles. Wading staff recommended here
especially if crossing the river. You'll need a valid California fishing license with current
steelhead punch card. Make sure to fill out your punch card before fishing.
For those fishing both days, there are lodging accommodations in nearby Grass Valley /Nevada City and Marysville/Yuba City. Sycamore Ranch campground (Yuba County Park) may or may not be open for camping this time but you can check here. https://secure.itinio.com/yuba/. Collins Lake has camping year round but be sure to check out gate policy before deciding to go here. Scott’s Flat lake is open to year round camping.
UC Davis charges the club $500 which covers the full weekend. $40 per angler allows you to fish one or both days. This event is 1st come 1st served. If the 20 person limit is filled a waiting list will be established.
If event is cancelled due to conditions, you can choose to receive either a full $40 club credit , or a refund less a nominal administrative cost.
