About this event

Dave Earl and I are putting together a small 2 day trip guided drift boat trip on the Trinity River for Nov 5 and 6 2025.   We have two boats filled and can add a third boat if we get two more anglers who want to register.  We’ll be indicator fishing for Steelhead, the rig we throw is much like what is used on the lower Sac-big indicator, long leader, heavy shot, 2 flies. The Trinity is more technical than Lower Sac, sometimes requiring feeding long, well mended drifts downstream.  It's suggested you have at least a couple of drift boat trips throwing this type of rig before trying the Trinity (not a good trip to try to acquire these skills).  We need 2 people who are ready to book now. We have top guides on hold and need to confirm by January 2. 2025. The 2 day trip cost is an estimated $900 per person (could be slightly lower, in which case you'll receive a credit). This includes lunch,  flies, shuttle, rods if needed and a quality tip for the guide.  Additional tipping OK but not required or expected, the tip is built into the $900.  Most experienced fisherman will hook some adult steelhead on this trip, landing these acrobatic anadromous fish is up to you.  All fish are released.  We meet the guides in Weaverville, CA, one hour East of Redding. The 4 of us already on this trip will likely be staying in Weaverville Tuesday November 4 and Wednesday Nov 5, with some then driving home after fishing Wednesday.  Dave says the 49er Gold Country Inn is about $100 per night.  It’s not uncommon to fish in rain or snow but trip can be cancelled by the guide if river gets blown out or unsafe. Participants need CA Fishing license and Steelhead punch cards.  9‘ 6” 7 weight rods are the norm but Dave prefers a 9’6” 8 weight.  We will probably meet in Weaverville at the Nugget Restaurant for dinners and breakfasts.
