Bio: Mike Curtis

Mike Curtis has been fishing since he could stand on his own two feet. He was raised always fishing and waterfowl hunting–which are now two of his greatest passions in life. Mike started guiding for Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters for 7 years, before taking the head guide positions for Reno Fly Shop. Now he’s venturing out on his own and starting Bucking Trout Outfitters.

Being raised in the Tahoe area, Mike knows most rivers by heart. His favorite river to guide and fish is the Truckee River on the Nevada side, also know as the “Big Tricky”. This river hold a special place in his heart. After moving to Reno in the 90’s, Mike has explored almost every inch of the Nevada side, and knows it well. On his days off, he loves chasing the big fish in the river or the under rated “Redneck Bonefish” (carp) that are in the local ponds and lake in Reno. He has contributed to Sierra Fly Fisherman Magazine, and provided photos to Jan Nemec’s book, Fly Fishing Guide to Nevada.

Mike has developed the skills to work with everybody from first time fly fishermen to the experienced anglers looking to try and land a “Truckee River Steelie” (rainbow trout) which could be the trout of a life time.

During waterfowl season he loves to call birds and watch his dog work, and for the rest of the year he is a family man to his wife and three beautiful daughters.
