There is a minimum of 3 and maximum of 8 paid participants. Payment is required to hold your spot. The fee for the class and clinic is $340 plus a $9 Admin fee if paid online. Children (12 to 18) of Family Memberships are allowed but must be accompanied by paid parent.

Cancellations prior to May 1 may be refunded if the minimum number of spots are filled or if your spot is filled by someone else. After May 1, refunds are at the discretion of the Club and Matt Heron.

Join your fellow TTFF members at a special beginner fly fishing class and clinic by local guide and instructor Matt Heron. Matt runs a successful fly fishing school located at the Resort at Squaw Creek. This class and clinic will include casting instruction, actual fishing on the 2 private ponds with stocked rainbows and then an on-the-water clinic on the Truckee River in the afternoon.

If you want a one-day all inclusive start in this sport or to pick up the basics in a proven teaching environment including time on the Truckee River, this is for you. Attending the class with fellow TTFF'ers will ensure a motivated class and may introduce a new fishing partner!

The day begins with the Cast N’ Catch (3 hrs: $180/pp) This is by far MHFFs most popular class offering the best of both worlds, casting instruction and fishing. Class begins with a private hour and a half casting lesson, which leads into an hour and a half of guided fishing on the private ponds. After your three hours, you’ll understand why this is the #1 choice of all students!

Then, the class will break for lunch (not included in fee) in Truckee for an afternoon on the Truckee River, near the town of Truckee.

During a typical clinic, you will learn skills such as:

The most effective techniques for presenting, dry flies, nymphs, and streamers to the pickiest of trout
Reading the water and figuring out where trout live, and why they’re there
River safety and etiquette
Streamside entomology with live bugs
Rigging your rod and useful knots
How to ethically fight, land, photograph, and release fish

What’s Included– All gear including rods, waders, flies, ect.

What’s Not Included– Although this not a guided fishing trip, a CA fishing license is required. A single day license is $14.60.
