Lower Yuba River GroupFish

Tahoe Truckee Flyfishers is returning to the UC Field Station on the Lower Yuba River!  This is an opportunity to fish the best water below the Englebright Dam.  We have Saturday January 29, 2022 and Sunday January 30 reserved for up to 15 people.

The UC Davis property is located about 1 1/2 hours from Truckee via I80 and Highway 20.  We will be provided with the combination to the gate lock so can accommodate staggered arrivals/departures. The gate may be “Dummy Locked” during the day.

There is a very nice pavilion with picnic tables and a charcoal grill.  The club will bring some charcoal for you to grill up a hot lunch if you like.  You are responsible for your own lunch and water. Porta Potty’s are on site.

If the river is running 1,800 CFS or less, wading is very possible and there are over 3 miles of river to access with good riverside trails.  There will be indicator and tight line nymphing as well as likely Skwalla stonefly dry fly action.

You will need a 3 to 6 weight rod with a floating line for indicator or dry fly fishing.  A sink tip line could also be used to swing streamers/soft hackles.  Most importantly, bring a WADING STAFF.  The Yuba is covered with bowling ball sized rocks and a staff is recommended here, especially when crossing the river.

For those fishing both days, there are Motel accommodations in nearby Grass Valley/Nevada City and Marysville/Yuba City.  It looks likely Sycamore Ranch campground (Yuba County Park) will not be open for camping this time but you can check here.

Collins Lake has camping year round but be sure to check out gate policy before deciding to go here.  Scott’s Flat lake is open to year round camping.  Free rough camping is also available off Hammonton Rd (South side of Hwy 20 bridge on river left)

Tom Page at Reel Anglers fly shop in Grass Valley has up to date info and gear needed 530.477.5397. Please support this local fly shop if you can.

The cost for the trip will be $40 per person for one or two days of fishing.  The trip is subject to winter river flows and if the flows are above 3,000 CFS it will be rescheduled.

Refunds will be provided if the entire event is cancelled.  Individuals may cancel but refunds will only be made if the spot is filled by another club member and only at the discretion of the club Treasurer.
