This is a one-day guide lead clinic for fishing streamers on the Truckee River. The objective is for participants to learn how, when, and where to fish streamers on rivers. This is an excellent opportunity to improve your streamer game. The clinic assumes you have basic fly fishing skills but want to learn more about streamer fishing.
The clinic will be led by Mike Curtis of Bucking Trout Outfitters. The group will meet Mike at 8:30 AM at the Chevron Station at the Mustang Exit off I80 in Sparks (exit 23). After checking your Nevada license (required), and brief introductions, Mike will then discuss details of streamer fishing: gear and rigging, flies, presentation options, etc. There will be a mid-day lunch break (bring your own lunch and drinks) then after lunch the group will go to a location of Mike’s choice where you will practice streamer fishing techniques. You’ll fish with Mike coaching you until about 3:30-4:00 PM when the clinic will end.
The cost of the clinic is $155/person exclusive of any tips which can be made at your discretion. We need a minimum of three attendees to conduct this clinic, and there is a maximum of 5 attendees. If we don’t have at least three attendees, the clinic will be rescheduled when more can attend or will canceled and you will be issued a club credit for your payment. You can cancel your registration and receive a full credit if you cancel before the cancelation date (about 2 weeks before the clinic). After the cancellation date, your registration fee will be creditable only if there is someone to take your place.
The gear you will need to bring includes a 5-6 weight fly rod, a reel with a floating fly line and, ideally, a type 3 full sinking line or a fast sink tip line, leaders and about 0-2X tippet, your usual stream accessories, wading gear, net, etc., and an assortment of streamers. Mike recommends streamers such as Zonkers, Wooly Buggers, Drunk & Disorderlys, Peanut Enveys, Sex Dungeons, Mike's Meal Tickets, Sculpin patterns, etc. Mike's favorite colors are white and olive/white in sizes ~#2-8. While Mike will have a limited number of streamers, you'll also need to provide your own flies
